2025: A turning point for financing a more sustainable future
A turning point for financing for development awaits in 2025. With the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) from 30 June to 3 July 2025 in Seville, Spain, the global community is getting ready to ensure sufficient financing for sustainable development. Together, the Conference will chart a path to reform the international financial architecture to make it fit for purpose in a more crisis-prone world.
Central to these efforts is the upcoming Third Preparatory Committee Session for FfD4 (3rd PrepCom) from 10 to 14 February 2025 at UN Headquarters in New York. The 3rd PrepCom session will begin negotiations on the zero draft of the FfD4 outcome document. The zero draft is an ambitious document with recommendations reflecting transformative change in international finance.
Participants at the session will engage in discussions and negotiations aimed at crafting a set of impactful outcomes and actionable commitments. The session will also include a high-level ministerial segment signaling political support for the process.
More than 50 side events hosted by stakeholders—including UN Member States, UN agencies, international financial institutions, academia and civil society organizations—will enrich the dialogue with diverse insights and approaches, offering innovative solutions for financing sustainable development.
FFD4 is set to be a landmark event. It will bring together world leaders, policymakers, the finance community and development practitioners to deliver systemic changes to financing sustainable development through 2030 and beyond.
With groundwork laid throughout the preparatory process, including in this 3rd PrepCom session, the international community can ensure FFD4 delivers a transformative blueprint for financing our future.
