Sixth global conference to promote synergies between climate and the SDGs

How can governments and other key players urgently act on the climate crisis in a way that maximizes sustainable development and the achievement of the SDGs?

Government officials and experts from civil society, the private sector and academia will come together in Copenhagen, Denmark on 27-28 May 2025 to tackle this and related questions at the 6th Global Conference on Climate and SDG Synergies, co-convened by UN DESA and UN Climate Change (UNFCCC), hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

Participants will explore how countries can advance different SDGs as they submit stronger climate commitments in their updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs 3.0), mandated under the Paris Agreement.

Roundtables will focus on how to scale up and better align climate and development finance, looking at potential synergies between funding targets under the Paris Agreement and the outcomes of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.

Other topics include synergistic approaches to water, food and biodiversity; creating resilience in coastal cities and regions; and energy action as a driver of both emission mitigation and sustainable development.

Informed by the work of the Expert Group on Climate and SDG Synergies and building on key recommendations from the Fifth Conference, this year’s event will facilitate in-depth dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and practical recommendations to transition from fragmented approaches to more integrated and synergistic policies and actions.
