Leveraging partnerships to achieve the global goals
At the 2023 SDG Summit, global leaders called for action, stressing the urgent need to engage and partner with a diverse range of actors to achieve sustainable development.
The 2024 UN Partnership Forum of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which will be held on 30 January at UN Headquarters in New York, will heed this call by bringing together Member States, the UN system and diverse stakeholders to showcase and discuss how partnerships can help drive the implementation of the SDGs.
Under the overarching theme of “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”, the Forum will focus on the SDGs that will be reviewed at the 2024 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, namely Goal 1 (No Poverty); Goal 2 (Zero Hunger); Goal 13 (Climate Action); Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions); and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Preparations for the 2024 Partnership Forum are in full swing. Amongst others, the Forum will hear keynote addresses by Professor Mariana Mazzucato, Professor of Economics of Innovation and Public Value at the University College London; and by Ms. Charitie Ropati, an Arctic Youth Ambassador. It will also feature dedicated sessions on the SDGs in focus to shine a light on the power of multistakeholder action.
In late 2023, a global online stakeholder consultation was carried out to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to provide their insights and recommendations. A summary report of the consultation has been posted on the 2024 Partnership Forum website and can be accessed here.
In the margins of the Forum, over 30 side events will be organized by Member States, the UN system and other actors. For more information about 2024 ECOSOC Partnership Forum, please explore this website here. Registration for stakeholders to attend the Forum is open until 12 January 2024.
