ECOSOC convenes the 2024 Coordination Segment
The international community will come together at the 2024 ECOSOC Coordination Segment in early 2024, to examine some of the major trends shaping our world.
The Segment – taking place on 31 January-1 February 2024 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York – will tackle issues including the renewal of global governance, the emergence of AI and other frontier technologies in a rapidly evolving digital landscape, as well as escalating climate risks. It will also address the main annual theme of the 2024 ECOSOC session, “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: The effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions.”
The Segment will contribute to the work of the Council and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, including to review Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2, 13, 16 and 17.
Leveraging the expertise of the ECOSOC system and ensuring coordination and alignment with the follow-up to the Political Declaration of the 2023 SDG Summit, the Coordination Segment will identify policies and actions to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. In doing so it will contribute to the 2024 Summit of the Future and other critical intergovernmental processes that aim to improve the wellbeing of people and planet.
